Raising Believers to train Believers to change the world.

Who we are

During Communism until its fall in 1989 many Christians in Slovakia and abroad continued to pray intensively for this nation.  This resulted in many unbelievers, people in difficult surroundings/situations being converted.   Christians in Slovakia gathered together zealously but a lack of the knowledge of the only Living God prevented them from significant growth. When Ulf Ekman, pastor of Word of Life church in Uppsala, Sweden visited Bratislava in 1993, he brought a powerful Full Gospel message with a prophetic voice for Slovakia heard by thousands.  After much prayer God gave the vision to two young men, Peter Čuřík and Martin Huncar, to start a new church in Bratislava. Within a year, two became a few and then from dozens to many.  As Gods work grew, Pastor Peter Čuřík and his closest co-worker Martin Huncar together with eight others felt the need to be better equipped and went to Word of Life Bible Center in Brno, Czech Republic.   Before going, they asked Word of Life church in Uppsala to send a missionary to help build a foundation for the church in their absence.  In 1994, Christian Heim together with his family was sent to Bratislava and he became the Pastor of the congregation, giving birth to Word of Life International Bratislava in Bratislava, Slovakia.  Word of Life International Bratislava was officially proclaimed in 1995.   Within 3 years Christian Heim helped to grow the church to more maturity and before his departure from Bratislava he appointed Martin Huncar as Pastor of the Church in December 1997.  In 1999, Pastor Peter Curik Čuřík started full time work at Word of Life International Bratislava as a Preacher and Associate Pastor. After the leading of the Holy Spirit and confirmation from the leaders at Word of Life in Upsala, Sweden, Pastor Peter Čuřík was appointed and released into the position of Senior Pastor of Word of Life International Bratislava.  Since September 2002, together with Associate Pastor Martin Huncar, Word of Life International Bratislava has grown tremendously.  The Church now has full and part time staff members dealing with the daily tasks of a growing and thriving Ministry.  Additionally, many church volunteers help at the church's offices distributing books, CD's and DVD's and to publish a Slovak Christian Magazine Víťazný život (A Life in Victory) which is distributed to the whole Slovak nation.

We are a Church with Foundation

What we are

Everyone has a place in the Church of God.  Our Lord Jesus Christ is who we proclaim unreservedly and unashamedly!  Word of Life International Bratislava focuses on developing Cell Groups- a mighty tool for fellowship and reaching the unsaved to Jesus.  We want our church to be like a plow, sharp yet broad plowing deep to raise the fertile, just as the Church of God should be.  Word of Life International Bratislava develops leaders from the field to plow other fields.  Using the Fivefold Ministry in the Church, Cell Groups, Sunday School, Youth Groups, Mission work, Helps Ministry and the Church's Finance Department we achieve this aim with the leading of the Holy Spirit and guidance from God.  We gather together for regular prayer meetings praying for the Church, nations, governments and leaders worldwide and as guided and lead by the Holy Spirit.  Our mission is to convert, disciple, equip and send out people with a purpose and calling from God-transforming people, changing lives!

We are a Church with Purpose

What we believe

Authority of the Bible

We believe the Bible is the Word of the only Living God and therefore the highest and only authority for our daily living both individually as well as corporately (2 Tim. 3:16-17).  The Bible reveals just who God is and exactly what His character is. We fervently believe that the Word of God is the only eternal Truth (John 17:17b, 1 Pet.1:25a).  The Word of God is irrefutable, infallible, unchangeable and cannot be added to or removed from by any authority of man, institution or any human tradition (John 10:35b; Ps. 119:89; Mark 7:13a; Rev. 22:18-19; 2.John 9; Prov. 30:6).

The Apostles´ Creed We fully agree with and openly confess The Apostles´ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day He rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

What the Gospel is

The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation to everybody who believes (Rom. 1:16).  It is Good News to all people and nations about our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 2:10-11).

The Gospel contains four spiritual principles:
1. God loves man and offers man a wonderful plan for our lives (John 3:16)
2. We have all sinned and are therefore separated from God (Rim 3:23)
3. Jesus Christ is God's only solution for the problem of sin in mankind. Only through Jesus Christ can man know         God's love and His plan for our lives (Rim 5:8)
4. We must receive Jesus Christ as our own personal Lord and Saviour (John 1:12).

How to get saved

The only way man can be saved is through the Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 24:46-47; John 14:6).

- The Lord Jesus died on the Cross for our sins and on the third day He arose from the dead for our justification (Rom 4:25)
- Anybody and everybody believes in his heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead and confesses Jesus Christ as Lord will be saved (Rom. 10:9-10).
- The consequences of this is God's miraculous intervention of man's inner being by dwelling in him - which Jesus calls the Born Again experience (John 3:1-7) .  We are then commanded to simply follow the example of the life of Jesus by doing the good works of Faith (Eph. 2:10).

For a deeper insight into this we recommend a book written by Ulf Ekman-"Doctrine, The Foundations of the Christian Faith", Word of Life Publications, Sweden, 1996 (available in Czech language through our distribution and fo rthe English version contact the Publisher at: P.O.Box 17, S-751 03, Uppsala, Sweden).

We are a Church of Faith

What we do

Publishing

God put on our heart to start publishing a Christian Magazine that would carry the Good News, teach Christian's basic full Gospel Bible doctrines and spread Revival news from our country and from around the world.  We believe God gave us a mandate for teaching people of Faith.  So at the end of 1998 we published the first issue of A Life in Victory (only in Slovak) and since that time the work has been increasing and every issue is now sent or given for free to over 1550 people throughout Slovakia.  It is a project of faith and God continues to provide the necessary resources to do so.

We also became a distribution centre for good quality Christian books.  In addition, we produce audio and visual recordings of our conferences (including our annual Conference in Uppsala, Sweden).   We produce a Message of the Month recording which is sold and distributed to believers.

In 2000 pastors Martin Huncar and Peter Čuřík wrote a book Biblical Foundations (available in Slovak) which describes the basic doctrines of our Christian faith focusing on Pentecostal themes such as the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, the Authority of Believers, Healing and Deliverance.  The book is now used to teach new believers in the basics of true Christianity.

Activities

Word of Life International Bratislava aims to be continuously active not only as a Church congregation but also as an active voice in the community.  We unashamedly and unreservedly proclaim Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour.   We do this by holding regular Sunday church meetings with Sunday School.  Our Youth Team meets regularly to grow in God and minister like JesusOutreach programs such as feeding the poor, visiting Children's homes, evangelism and cooperation with other similar Christian organizations form just part of what it is that we do to proclaim the Gospel.   Word of Life International Bratislava regularly hosts recognised guest Ministers from around the world who minister, preach and teach the Word of God.  We hold regular local seminars as well as regular prayer meetings.  Our cell groups meet every week at homes across Bratislava for fellowship and ministry.  Our Annual Conference strengthens the Church and leads many to Jesus.

Our Bible School started 2008/2009 with students from across the globe.  Training leaders for Ministry and those with a desire to know The Lord more, we equip students to reap the harvest that is out there for harvesting.  Recognised International Ministers are amongst those who help students grow in the Word and be effective in Ministry by fulfilling their call from God.

Word of Life International Bratislava aims to own its own building for worship and ministry and multiplying its Cell Groups and to raise new leaders for the work of the Ministry.
