How did the Word of Life Church in Slovakia start?
In autumn 1989 a missionary team from the Word of Life church in Uppsala visited Prague. A few enthusiastic people got saved and began to meet and organize public evangelizations. Important milestone was the "Danube Festival" in 1993, pastor Ulf Ekman from Sweden visited Bratislava. The church was gradually growing in strength and in 1995 was officially registered as a public organization.
What Christian denomination do you belong to ?
We consider ourselves to be evangelical and charismatic-Pentecostal Church. The term evangelical means that a person becomes a Christian and is part of the church only when he personally receives Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. The term Charismatic-Pentecostal expresses our belief in the "Pentecostal experience", ie baptism of the Holy Spirit associated with speaking in new tongues (Acts 2.kap.) and working of other gifts of the Holy Spirit (1.Corinthians 12-14). We believe also in the power of healing and deliverance in Jesus name.
Are you organizationally connected to a foreign church?
Our church is a legal entity and is not subject to any supranational structures. But we have very close contact with the Word of Life Church in Uppsala in Sweden and respect preachers and leaders of this church. Our cooperation is based on mutual respect and partnership.
What is your attitude towards other churches?
We’re not looking for exclusivity and we highly appreciate and respect all other Christian churches. Of course, we have closest cooperation with various Charismatic-Pentecostal churches in Slovakia and abroad.
What is your attitude towards other religions?
We respect the free will of every man, hence his religion or belief. God loves all people without distinction. On the other hand, we believe and proclaim that Jesus Christ is "the only Way, Truth and Life and no one comes to God other than through Him."
How is your church financed?
Our activities are financed entirely by voluntary donations and contributions from our members, visitors, meetings, or other people who relate closely to the work of our church. We don’t receive government subsidies or regular funding from abroad.
Who leads your church?
The Church has a pastor and team leaders who are accountable to a members assembly of the church. We follow the statutes of our organization and we conduct proper accounting. In the spiritual life of our church is the highest authority the Bible, Holy Scripture.
Where do you put your main emphasis and what is your goal?
We want to help everyone to know personally the living God and we want to spread Biblical Christianity. Our vision is to lay a solid foundation of Christian life and helping people around us. This includes building of Christian churches, distribution of Christian publications and products, evangelism and social work.
